Meddling with Nature:  Who We Are, What We’re About

Meddling With Nature is a group of artists, empiricists and teachers in the naturalist tradition. We specialize in participatory learning in natural history and anatomy through dissection and experiment. In our art we explore the relations between ‘man and animal’, ‘mind and body’.

We also provide taxidermy and anatomical displays for museums and collectors, and realistic props for film and stage. We’re centered in 21st-century Cincinnati, though our work has at least as much to say to the Victorians or the Ancients or modern Los Angelenos.

We hope you’ll have almost as much fun exploring our work as we’ve had making it. We encourage you to ask questions, to find answers with your fingers, and to reach out and say hello if you want a closer look.

    Hi my name is Rosalia,
I think your articulation is great. What type of hardware do you use for the articulation? Where might one procure it? I am very interested in doing something similar. I have procured the bones dogs paw, but do not know where to begin.

    Thank you for your time,
    Rosalia

I tend to make my own bolts now-a-days using brass stock. The threading for inserts as well as the screws is relatively easy with brass. I am doing this with my articulations because I found that I was needing odd sizes and had the tools on hand anyway. A good tap and dye set will go along way and will really give you a sense of freedom with this sort of thing. HOWEVER…

I think the best place to get high quality screws, bolts, and nuts as well as raw materials and tools of any kind is http://www.mcmaster.com/ there searching system is the best I have ever seen, so even if you don’t buy stuff from them, its an invaluable resource to figure out what you need!
